Nowadays, patients use mainstream medicine as well as complementary medicine to get the best care available; this combines science-based care with a holistic approach. In fact, about 75 percent of Americans use some type of alternative care today. As a result, many medical schools are now addressing this need by offering courses in alternative medicine. Scores and scores of med students are now fully prepared in the area of integrative medicine.
Medical doctors go through rigorous training, and must pass the multi-step medical licensing examination. The MD is earned in about four years. After that, physicians must complete a one-year internship. If a specialty, such as internal medicine, is desired, the medical student will receive training through residency. Further specialization may require additional training.
